New Scrapper in Town - Toh Ee

I am delighted to have found another scrapper friend in KL,  Toh Ee. Even though she claims to be new at scrapbooking,  her work is definitely non-beginner.  I love how she dabbles in all kinds of mixed media and Toh Ee was kind enough to share a layout with us at the Scrap-it-Lah blog.  The layout she has chosen to share with us for this month's challenge is total shabby chic with elegance all rolled into one.  For more information on Toh Ee,  do visit her blog here.

Making simple ribbon flowers

This is just a simple tutorial making flowers out of ribbon.  All you would need would be strips or scraps of ribbons,  buttons,  a needle and thread and you are ready to go. Just lay everything together as you wish and thread through the button and ribbons and you are done.

See how effective this simple embellishment is?  You can add a doiley to enhance the flower or even leave it plain.  Totally up to you.

Hidden journalling in your layout

Hmmm- where is the journalling?

Here it is at the side.

Voila!  Pull out to read it.

Its very easy to create a hidden journalling pocket in your layout. Here I have just raised the photo in my layout with pop up dots and that creates space which I added a journalling card.  A hidden journalling card is useful when you do not wish to clutter the layout with your journalling. Do try it today.

Tutorial - How to make paper flowers

This latest tutorial is contributed by Jessy.  Thanks so much for sharing this technique on how to make paper flowers using our old magazines.  This is such a great way to recycle ladies!

Step no 1:  Cut a scalloped shape from the magazine print.  We have used the Spellbinders dies here.  You can always use whatever you have - e.g. scalloped punch would do this job nicely.

Step no 2:  Spray the scalloped die cut with any glimmer mist that you have.
Tip - if you do not own any, how about adding some pearl powder to some distress inks reinkers and some water in a spray bottle and spray it on.  That should work fine.  Otherwise regular water colour mixed with some pearl powder and water  and give it a go.

Step no 3:  After it is dry,  scrunch the flower up the way Jessy has demonstrated here.

Step no 4:  To secure the scrunches,  pinch the bottom to resemble a tip.

Step no 5:  Voila - you have a flower base.

Step no 6. Try embellishing it with a small flower and add a pearl for the flower center.

If you have other more fun tips and techniques,  do share it with us here at Scrapping Inspirations.

Creating Textured Backgrounds

Thanks to Sasha allowing me to hijack her layouts again - we bring you - TEXTURED background.  According to Sasha - its therapeutic,  its fun - even down to the flaps that stick out!  Hee hee... How does one do it?  Just cut the pp in small little squares,  ink the sides and then paste it on randomly - totally easy peasy...  but the effects - totally COOL!  Do try it!

Digital Scrappers DT Call

My friend Zakirah is on the lookout for a new digiscrapper DT team.  Details are as follows:

Call for: Hybrid/Digi layout team members for Matahati Designs
Store link:
http://scraporchard.com/market/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=25
Blog link: http://matahatidesigns.com
Call ad: http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t357/matahatiseni/ctcall.jpg

Call details: I'm looking to add a few hybrid & digital scrappers to my
Creative Team. Your duty as a creative team member is basically to create
projects (hybrid team) and layouts (digital team). Minimum requirement is
one project (hybrid team) and one layout (digital team) per product
downloaded. I don't have a minimum monthly project/layout requirement per
month, so you can scrap as many or as little as you wish. Quality is more
important than quantity, and I encourage you to create projects/layouts
that you'll treasure and not just to meet team requirements (that's why my
requirement is very little - I don't want to pressure you). I accept
applications from everyone, and you can be from anywhere in the world.

Apply by: March 15, 2009.

Email your apps to: zakirah@matahatidesigns.com

Please put "Hybrid/Digi CT Call" as your subject.

I'm looking forward to review your applications!

Using Coredinations with the Cuttlebug Embossing

Layout made for SK forum challenge.

I played with the coredinations cardstock today.  What is the unique feature of this cardstock?  When you sand the coredinations cardstock - it reveals an inner cs which is white in nature - giving it a unique distressed look.

Here,  I folded the cardstock and embossed the cardstock in my cuttlebug machine.  Then I sanded the embossed surface and voila - check out the texture revealed.  I love the effects.

Creating backgrounds with bottle caps and acrylic paint

I had fun playing with bottle caps and acrylic paint this afternoon.  All I did was just to stamp the reverse side of some bottle caps to a white sheet of bazzill and it looked great.  Hope you try this tip.

Toot for Irene Tan

What is the ULTIMATE scrapbooking dream for you?  Well for Irene Tan - her dream has just been realised.  She has been chosen to design Tim Holtz -,  yes - the man himself!  Irene - I just want to say that you have made all the Malaysian scrappers proud.  Thank you and we look forward to enjoying more beautiful creations from you.

Malay Dowry Envelope by Hazel

Spotted in Hazel's blog - this beautiful envelope. What is it?  Hazel made it especially for a Malay wedding and it is used to store the dowry money to the bride.  Love how she combined the Chatterbox paper with a beautiful Basic Grey (if I am not mistaken) rubon.  The flowers and the butterflies were a great complement to the envelope.  This is so lovely Hazel.  Thanks for sharing...
