ScrappingGlitz First Charity Drive

Its been awfully quiet in this blog for a good reason.  I have been busy making some altered stuff to sell at the oncoming Christmas Bazaars in order to raise funds for charity.  We are working towards to channel funds into the Kampung Tekir Orang Asli (Aboriginal People) Community.  This group of under privileged kids was first introduced to me by Jessy. For more information on the kids - please click here to see them.

Hence,  here are the sample things that we have come up to sell and to our delight  ScrappingGlitz have very kindly taken a very pro-active role in helping us sell the stuff too.  Thanks so much to Nadhrah who has been extremely sweet and kind.  Kindly be informed the following items will be available at ScrappingGlitz and we are also selling these items at the American Bazaar this year at the Crown Princess Hotel on Wednesday,  19th November,  2008. Hope that you can help us in making the lives of these very deserving kids better.

For more information,  please email me at chowchow138@gmail.com or please contact ScrappingGlitz for details.

Some of the stuff that are available includes:

ALTERED JARS (RM12)

KIDDY NOTEBOOKS (RM10) (sorry these designs are sold out.  More coming soon)

HANDMADE CARDS by AGNES (2 for RM15)

Tips and Techniques - Stamping with Cross Stitch Material

This week we have the honour of having Sasha Farina contributing to our tips and techniques section.  This is a layout that Sasha has created for Label Tulip and we would like to thank both Sasha and Label Tulip for graciously allowing us to publish this layout.

Sasha has brilliantly used her cross stitch material which has been lying around the house and added some acrylic paint and used it as a stamped background. This is definitely an innovative and cool technique.  So ladies,  take a look around your house and check what you can use for your layouts.  You would be pleasantly surprised with the effects!

Artist Feature - Hazel

We are proud to present another Malaysian scrapper this week and the honour goes to Hazel. Hazel answered a few questions for me on how she started dabbling in scrapbooking. She tels me that she has always loved arts and craft. Before exploring the likes of scrapbooking, she was into glass painting and paper tole. Guess what Hazel - I love paper tole too.

Hazel is also a whiz at Mehndi drawing at weddings and regards scrapbooking as another way to explore her creative side. She actually started scrapbooking last year (2007) and admits that she loves anything that shines - translates - blings and any girlie embellishments on the her layouts.  Her favourite subjects to scrap are spontaneous and kiddy moments which she catches on her Olympus U710 camera.

Hazel is a working mom and she also owns a beauty saloon on the side. In spite of a hectic schedule,  this busy woman still finds the time to scrap as she professes that she loves beautiful things and for her scrapbooking is a beautiful expression of one's life and each and every creation has its own uniqueness.  Well said Hazel.  Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful work with us.

Submissions for Purse Albums

If you have made one, please email the photos to us at chowchow138@gmail.com. We would love to publish it!

Purse album Tutorial

Last September,  I had the honour of being chosen as the Inspirational Scrapper at ArtzDescrap. My chosen tutorial was a purse album which I have decided to re-release here.  If you are interested in seeing some of the beautiful albums that the rest of the designers and readers have come up with,  please head over to the Artzdescrap blog.

Things you would need

Chipboard covers (I have used 6.5 by 6.5 inches here)
One chipboard strip for the spine of the album
Paper for inside of the album
(I have cut mine to 4.5 by 12 inches)
One pipe cleaner (for threading the pearls through)
Pearls
Glue
Scissors
Crop-a-dile or anything you can make a hole with
Scorer

Step 1 - We start by making the inner pages.  Firstly - score 4.5 inches by 12 inches inner pages into half.  Then add double sided tape to the both outer corners of the page is in the photo below.

Step 2:  Align each corner of the inner page together and stick the pages together in a fan-like manner.

Step 3:  The results of the inner page album should look like this:

Step 4 : Measure half an inch off the square chipboard cover on side and cut the excess away as in pic.

Step 5: Cover the chipboard with patterned paper.

Step 6: Add the spine to the 2 covers, add double sided tape to both side to adhere the spine to the covers and remove the double sided tape.

Step 7:  Cover the spine with patterned paper.

Step 8:  Cover the rest of the spine carefully and overlap the inner chipboard cover.

Step 9: Make 2 holes on the spine of the album using your crop a dile.

Step 10: Add the handle which you have threaded the pearls through previously.

Step 11:  Stick the inner pages onto the cover of the album.

Step 12: The album is then ready to be embellished as you please.

Hope you like this tutorial and if you have done one,  please do share with us at chowchow138@gmail.com.  We would love to see your beautiful creation. I am proud to announce that I will be demonstrating this album at Scrap-n-Crop on Saturday,  1st November,  2008.  If you are interested,  please register with Valerie.Gan@gmail.com.

Artist Feature - Shyra

Shyra is a relative new comer in scrapbooking as she just started scrapbooking in Nov 2007. Whilst browsing in Borders, some scarpbooking magazines caught her eye and the rest is history as they say. Amazed with the creations that she saw, she started her passion in scrapbooking.

Citing Thickers, Patterned Papers (especially the special shaped ones - with scallops, etc), Rhinestones, Stickles and Flowers as her favourite embellishments, you will inevitably see these in her layouts. Most of the time, Shyra loves to scrapbook about her family, friends and herself. She captures all her photos on her Sony Cyber-shot T20.

Shyra ends our feature by saying that her current style in scrapbooking is simple. She would love to try layering in her layouts soon, as well as other techniques. She believes that she is still learning and there's a lot of things that she could learn about scrapbooking. She has decided take one step at a time (as she has time constraints as well) and believe that she could improve in her scrapbooking. She also prides that her source of inspiration is from the many talented scrappers out there. we would like to wish Shyra success in her scrapbooking and we would love to see more from this young lady.
