Artist Feature - Nadhrah Maidin

The whole year seemed to have flown by really quickly.  We are all at the verge of a New Year and I have selected one final artist feature as a finale.  Here she is - Nadhrah Maidin who is coincidentally the owner of ScrappingGlitz.

Nadhrah was kind enough to answer a few questions for me. I asked her on when she first started scrapping. Nadhrah replied - "I first started scrapping when i saw my sis in law, Ruslina's scrapping work . She is my partner in SG. I fell in love with it and I started with first ever project...a birthday gift for my husband. I did a 2 page layout and I framed it. The layout is a story about how we met." Awwww - that is so sweet...

Nahdrah rates swirls, stamps and rub ons as her favourite elements in scrapbooking. I can attest to that during a visit to her abode that she is another hoarder like me. This petite powerhouse also is another avid stamp collector. To my surprise - she seems to fancy acrylic stamps to rubber stamps. But I hope she will be a convert soon.

Armed with a Canon 400D, this petite lady can be seen snapping away - capturing beautiful portraits of her kids and landscape. A self-confessed scrapaholic, Nadhrah is one of those who is willing to sacrifice her sleeping time to scrap! At the moment - Nadhrah is designing beautiful creations for her shop. You can see most of her scrapping creations here.

Thank you so much for sharing with us Nadhrah.

Kg Tekir Charity

We are pleased to announce that the Kg Tekir charity is a resounding success.  We would like to thank the Kajang Assembly of God who have been diligently going into the estate to teach these very bright kids every tuesday and saturday.  We would also like to thank all the people who have helped towards this donation - all money raised will be channeled towards the Kg Tekir education fund.  Here are some pictures from our visit today.

Jessy going through what they have learnt from the book by Eric Carle - "The Hungry Caterpillar". Most of the kids have not tasted pears,  plums,  strawberries,  sausages,  watermelon,  salami,  and etc.  ALL of the kids have not tasted cake before and do not know what is a birthday cake!

Kids enjoying the lesson and revision.

The twins playing a game.

Standing in line.

Standing on a small piece of newspaper game.  Some were inventive and clever enough to piggy back each other to win the game.

We brought some food to share with the kids.  Thanks to Linda - who brought extra cupcakes for the kids.

Playing with distressed inks

I have always loved the look of the distressed inks. Here I have used some distressed inks to create a messy background on a piece of white bazzill paper. I love the effect that you can create your own patterned paper. This is what I have done. Will upload with the full layout soon.

Firstly - I used a light colour "OLD PAPER" and lighly dab it onto the photo paper. If you do not have the Inkssentials Foam Appplicator pictures,  just use a normal facial sponge.  This works as well.

Next I added a stronger colour - Scattered Straw.

Thereafter - these few colours were dabbed on sparsely to match the photo of my layout.

I was quite satisfied with the inking then.  I then proceeded to add some stamps and emboosed the images using some distress embossing powder.

Altered Candles

Altered candles by Hazel ( Malaysia)

Altered Candles by Wati (Singapore)

Altered Candles by Nadia  (Malaysia)

I have to say that life as a scrapbooker has made us become more and more creative.  My 2 fellow scrapbooker friends - Wati , Nad and Hazel have chosen to alter their candles most beautifully.  Altering candles is a fast and effective way of decorating one's abode.

The easiest way to be to add on some rubons as Wati and Hazel has demonstrated here. However,  both Nad and Hazel took it to another level and she added flowers and trims and etc. It is up to your imagination really - how one alters the candle.  Hence - I leave you with some beautifully altered candles by these 2 talented ladies.

Aida Haron - Tassels Tutorial

We are very honoured to have Aida Haron this month as our Guest Artiste.  Aida has very kindly shared her tassels tutorial with us and I have to say that I have been admiring those beautiful handmade tassels from afar for a very long time.  Now that Aida is sharing her tutorial with us - I can't wait to get cracking on making some.  Thanks so much for sharing Aida.

Materials needed:
Thin ribbon 20 inches, folded in two
Pp 1.5 X 3 inches
Cardstock 0.5 inch X 2 inches

Materials needed to begin.

Ink the edges of the paper.

Cut 2/3 into the paper in thin strips to make straight frills.

Staple the folded ribbon to one end of the pp which has the frills cut into it

Add a small daub of glue and roll the paper up. Glue the end down.

An almost complete tassel.

Glue the cardstock strip around the tassel to secure.  Gently curl the frills with your finger-tips.

The finished tassel.

Note to reader:  KIndly note that this tutorial belongs completely to Ms Aida Haron.  Any replication and duplication of this tutorial - please refer to Ms Aida for her permission.  Thank you.
